Why a Paramotor SIV instead of a Paragliding SIV?
Most SIVs taught in the US are Paragliding (or PG) SIVs. These are fantastic ways to learn skills in a controlled environment, and later translate them over to powered flight (PPG). For Paramotor pilots, we feel the best way to learn to react to an event in flight, is to practice it in the way you would normally be flight - with an engine. PG SIVs are great, but one of the downsides, though, is the necessity of towing. This reduces the number of SIV course runs that you can do in a given time. With a PPG SIV, not only are you learning these manuevers in your normal flying configuration (with an engine), but in a PPG SIV, there is no need for towing. So, students can expect to get 3-4 TIMES the number of course run-throughs. This allows for maneuvers to be practiced multiple times, allowing for more confidence to be built. It always means more opportunity for fun!

How much flying can I expect in this SIV?
Because our SIV will be a Paramotor course, you can expect 3-4 TIMES the amount of course runs capable in a traditional PG course. We are also on the beach, so we can fly all day long. No thermals at the beach!

What if the weather is bad?
Weather is always a crutch when it comes to flying. Fortunately, we "usually" have great weather on the beach in Corpus Christi. Nevertheless, we must prepare for the possibility of bad weather. We are leaving Monday (July 22nd) available as a weather alternate. If one of the days gets rained out, we will use Monday as day 3. If, two or more days of the event are washed out due to weather, you will be fully credited towards the next Bay Days event, and receive priority registration. We plan to do Bay Days once a quarter (4 times) per year. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to reach out to us!

Is there any safety equipment needed?
YES! All pilots must wear a reserve, and a flotation device. The competition is over the water, so the flotation device must have automatic inflation capability. We don't ever intend for someone to go into the water, and it's highly unlikely to happen - but you always have to be prepared. We will have a recovery boat and crew in the water at all times during the SIV. If you don't have a reserve or flotation, don't worry! You can rent them from us for the course.

Where can I stay if I'm coming into Corpus Christi?
There are several reasonably priced hotels to choose from in Corpus. The event is taking place by the North Packery Chanel Jetty. There are dozens of hotels on the beach nearby. If you're coming in and need a place to store your paramotor, don't worry, we will have a place for you to put your unit overnight!
-
Will there be somewhere I can put my equipment so I don't have to put it in the hotel?
Yes! We will have a location to lock up your paramotor equipment, to keep it safe overnight - and so you don't have to drag it in and out of the hotel. Space is limited, so only 1 paramotor can be stored per participant.
-
Do I need to be super experienced to be in the competition?
Absolutely not! The competition is for anyone wanting to challenge themselves, and gain some skills along the way. Pilots of all capabilities are encouraged to compete! While you are not on a course run during the SIV on day 1 and day 2, we will have all of the courses setup for you to do practice runs on! Power2Fly Team Pilots will be out helping you with any questions you have on the course.
-
How many people will compete?
We are only opening the competition to 30 pilots - so signup quickly to make sure you reserve your spot!
-
Can I rent equipment for Bay Days?
Yes! We have several paramotors available for rent, along with reserves and flotation devices. If you don't have one just add one when you register and we'll hook you up!

What if I go in the water?
During the SIV portion of Bay Days, we will take every precaution possible to ensure absolute safety. With any aspect of flying, there is alway an inherent degree of risk accepted. The course is done over the water, under the supervision (and radio guidance) of our professional instructor, to add to that safety layer. In the RARE event you end up in the water, not to worry. We will have a boat in the water at all times, with a retrieval crew. Once we get you back to shore and upright again, we will place your unit in one of our fresh water soaker tanks, to flush any salt water. Our mechanics on hand will help assist in getting you back up and running. Reserve repack will also be available

Can I come to Bay Days if I'm traveling from outside of the US?
Absolutely! If you are traveling internationally with equipment, it is recommended to bring your equipment on the airlines, however, it's somewhat of a risk on US airlines. There are horror stories of equipment being 'lost' or not allowed to enter through customs. Not to worry, we have equipment available for rent!
